Members of the party are discussing launching the party president, , as a pre-candidate for vice on the ticket in the dispute for Palácio do Planalto, in an attempt to stop the movement for an alliance that would have (Novo) as head of the ticket.
The articulation to appoint Kassab as Caiado’s deputy by , which cites the expected announcement by Heráclito Fortes.
Distant from (PT) and () in polls of voting intentions, Zema and Caiado started to admit the possibility of coming together in the first round of the elections and had a meeting last Tuesday (26).
Caiado even admitted the possibility of being vice-president, but later changed his tone, saying that the conversation did not reach the “level of understanding” about this position and that there will be a new meeting with him.
The president of the PSD is in Lisbon to participate in the Lisbon Forum, an event led by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) and which became known as “Gilmarpalooza”. Along with him are other party leaders, such as Jorge Bornhausen and Heráclito Fortes.
The objective of announcing Kassab as vice-president would be to overcome the irritation of members of the party at the way in which the hypothesis of Caiado being Zema’s vice-president was discussed, instead of the opposite scenario.
The discussion of an alliance between the two pre-candidates for the Presidency occurs after , the target of criticism from Zema and Caiado, and the advantage opened by Lula in .
According to a Datafolha survey released in May, Lula (40%) increased the difference between Flávio (31%) and Flávio (31%) in the first round simulation from 3 to 9 percentage points. Caiado and Zema scored, respectively, 4% and 3% in the survey.
