Pentagon chief threatens Iran with resumption of attacks if no deal is reached

The United States is ready to resume attacks against Iran if an agreement is not reached, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said this Saturday (30).

“Our ability to resume operations if necessary… we are more than capable,” Hegseth said in Singapore. “Our stocks are more than adequate for this, both there and around the world, so we are in a very good position,” he added.

Hegseth, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia’s premier forum for defense leaders, military personnel and diplomats, said the US has not turned its back on the Asia-Pacific region despite the conflict with Iran.

“We can do two things at the same time. We are boosting our defense industrial base so that we can produce two, three, four times more munitions soon, to ensure that all our (operational) plans are properly funded around the world,” he commented.

The head of the Pentagon said that US President Donald Trump is “patient” and wants to reach a “grand deal” that ensures Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons.

On Friday (30), Trump said he was considering a proposal to end the war with Iran.

This proposal from early April for another 60 days, giving negotiators time to reach a definitive agreement to end the conflict.

The war started by the United States and Israel on February 28 mainly in Iran and Lebanon, and caused global economic damage, raising energy prices due to Tehran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
