The US president said in a post on social media that he will attend a meeting in the Situation Room of the White House in order to make a final decision on an agreement with the .
“I will now have a meeting in the Situation Room to make a final decision,” the US president wrote on Truth Social.
In his post, he listed the commitments that Iran needs to make and the points he considers a given for a possible agreement.
“Iran must agree that it will never acquire nuclear weapons. The Straits of Hormuz must be opened immediately” and Tehran must commit to fully demining the Straits, Trump said.
The enriched uranium “will be dug up by the US in close coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency and DESTROYED,” the US president added.
“There will be no exchange of money until further notice,” he continued, adding that “other, much less important issues have been resolved,” he assured.
The agreement depends on the “change of attitude” of the US, says Foreign Minister Aragchi
Tehran has called on Washington to drop its “excessive” demands in negotiations to end the war, as US President Donald Trump says he is preparing to make his “final” decision.
“Reaching a final agreement depends on a change of attitude on the American side,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a conversation with his Omani counterpart.
Aragchi denounced the “maximalist demands” but also the “contradictory and unstable positions” of the USA.
“Memorandum of understanding” does not include terms on nukes and opening of Hormuz, according to Iranian sources
US President Donald Trump’s latest statements about a possible deal to end the war in Iran were described as “a mixture of truth and lies”, sources who spoke to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency said.
“Trump said that Iran is ready to open the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, while no such terms are included in the text of the agreement,” the sources assured. After the US lifts the embargo on Iranian ships, the Straits will reopen, based on security measures taken by Tehran, according to Fars.
The US president’s comments are “an attempt to present a manufactured victory”, the agency reported.
The destruction of Iran’s nuclear material is also not mentioned in this “memorandum of understanding”, they added. Instead, they include the condition of immediate payment to Tehran of $12 billion from Iran’s “frozen” funds, as well as a complete ceasefire in Lebanon.
The same sources said that this “memorandum” is in the final stages of ratification in Iran but no final decision has yet been made.
Earlier, in a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said he was preparing to make his “final decision” on a possible deal, estimating that Hormuz should be opened “immediately” and the enriched uranium “destroyed,” as he wrote in capital letters.
An Iranian source also told Reuters that the US president’s claim about the fate of Iran’s highly enriched uranium is “not true”, confirming that the memorandum does not contain any nuclear-related terms.
