Hiker is found alive after 5 days missing in Santa Catarina

Young man had not eaten since Monday (25)

One 27-year-old man who had been missing for five days was found alive this Sunday (31), after getting lost on a trail in Morro Pelado, northwest of Joinville (SC). He presented signs of hypothermia and it was rescued by helicopter by firefighters.

After getting lost, hefollowed the course of a river until he reached the Piraí Treatment Station, where he was located by firefighters at around 9:30 am this Sunday. The young man was since Monday (25th) without eating. The trail is 32 kilometers from the center of Joinville.

A task force with more than 60 people went in search of Ezequiel Marcos Ferreira, 27, on Saturday (30). The searches resumed around 7:30 am this Sunday, according to the Fire Department.

The group suspected that the young man could have gotten lost in the location, marked by trails of high degree of difficultywith several forking points and complex navigation areas, firefighters said.

On social media, Ezequiel often shares his outdoor activities. Before his disappearance, he came to share part of the route which he did in the Morro Pelado area on an application that records physical activities.
