Mauro Vieira meets with Chinese authorities in Beijing

Brazilian chancellor met with vice president and Chinese trade representative in the Great Hall of the People

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, , began his agenda in Beijing this Monday (June 1, 2026) with a meeting with the Vice President of China, Han Zheng. The meeting took place behind closed doors and was attended by members of the Brazilian and Chinese delegation. Among the Chinese representatives was China’s top international trade negotiator, Li Chenggang.

Mauro Vieira’s agenda for this Monday (June 1st) also includes meetings with the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi. The Brazilian ambassador in Beijing, Marcos Galvão, is part of the Brazilian delegation.

The Brazilian chancellor arrived in the Chinese capital on Sunday (May 31) and will return to Brazil on Tuesday (June 2). On his last day, Vieira will visit the National Museum in Beijing to watch the installation of an exhibition by Brazilian artist Candido Portinari, which will open to the Chinese public on June 9.

The meeting with Wang Yi is part of the DEG (Brazil-China Strategic Dialogue). It is a mechanism that serves mainly to strengthen bilateral ties and promote cooperation in various areas between Brazil and China, such as tourism, culture and investments in infrastructure. Typically, it is performed every 2 or 3 years.

This will be the 5th edition of DEG and the 2nd held on Chinese soil. The other 3 editions were held in Brasília.
