Starting this week, the PT will carry out internal research to decide its candidate for the government of Minas Gerais. The party is in an impasse after the senator (PSB) withdrew from running for office, leaving President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva without a platform in the second largest state in the country.
The research, contracted by the Electoral Working Group (GTE) of the national directory, will test possible names of PT members to head the ticket.
Among them are federal deputies Reginaldo Lopes and Rogerio Correia and the former mayor of Contagem Marília Campos (who is also tipped to run for ).
The idea is to have a definition in the first half of June. “We can’t wait any longer, the electoral campaign is about to start”, says the PT’s national treasurer, Gleide Andrade, who is a pre-candidate for federal deputy in the state.
Last weekend, the PT state directory approved a resolution defending its own candidacy,
On Saturday (30), PT’s national president, Edinho Silva, was in the state for a round of talks with possible allies, but which were inconclusive. One of those he met was the former mayor of Alexandre Kalil (PDT), but who resists being a candidate in alliance with Lula.
Other alternatives mentioned are support for businessman Josué Gomes Alencar and former attorney general Jarbas Soares Junior, both from PSB, and former councilor Gabriel Azevedo (MDB). But the options face resistance from the militancy.
