After that, he left the house before the arrival of police officers, who finally located him on a path near the Mississippi River, where he took his life. “While speaking with Ryan Willis McFarland, he committed suicide,” said Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies, who indicated that “officers and emergency personnel provided assistance to him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

However, the investigation has led authorities to suspect a greater number of victims in addition to the four who died in a first home and, finally, they have located the bodies of two men dead from apparent gunshot wounds in another home and in a nearby business.
As for the motive for the crime, Muscatine Police said in a statement that “preliminary findings indicate that the shooting originated from a domestic dispute” and “all of the victims are believed to be relatives of the deceased suspect,” who, according to Kies, had no criminal record.
