Corpus Christi: More than 20 million vehicles are expected to fill SP roads

The concession highways in the state of São Paulo are expected to receive more than 20 million vehicles during the Corpus Christi long holiday, between the 3rd and 8th of June, according to an estimate released by Artesp (Transport Agency of the State of São Paulo).

The predicted volume is between in 2026 and should cause intense movement in the main corridors that connect the capital of São Paulo to the coast and interior of the state.

Among the dealerships with the highest expected flow are AutoBAn, with a forecast of 3.17 million vehicles, followed by Sorocabana (1.89 million), Novo Litoral (1.53 million), Rodoanel Oeste (1.48 million) and Ecovias Leste Paulista (1.39 million).

The highways that provide access to the coast are expected to concentrate a significant part of the traffic, increasing the expectation of great movement on the beaches during the period.

To meet demand, concessionaires say they will operate at maximum capacity throughout the holiday. Monitoring will be carried out 24 hours a day by CCOs (Operational Control Centers), in conjunction with the Road Police, with the support of cameras, sensors and electronic panels distributed along the roads.

The special operation also includes strengthening user service teams, expanding the fleet of tow trucks and ambulances, strategic positioning of vehicles and increasing operational capacity at toll plazas.

In sections with especially on access to the coast, special traffic operations may be adopted.

In the Anchieta-Imigrantes System, for example, the concessionaire will be able to implement lane reversal schemes to prioritize flows down and up the mountain, depending on the demand observed throughout the holiday.

According to Artesp, the operation planning takes into account the results obtained during the when the concession highways recorded a reduction of more than 50% in the number of accidents compared to the same period of the previous year.

The recommendation for drivers is to plan trips in advance, monitor traffic conditions through official dealership channels and respect speed limits.

Throughout the holiday, guidance and road safety messages will also be displayed on electronic panels installed along São Paulo’s highways.
