Pre-candidate for President for Mission stated that the North American president “every week tries to help a friend” in Brazil
The pre-candidate for President (Mission) stated, on Tuesday (June 2, 2026), that the attitudes of the President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party), benefit both (PT) and (PL). The statement was made while participating in the Morning Show program, on .
“I think that Donald Trump every week tries to help a friend of his here in Brazil. Last week he helped Flávio, took a photo with Flávio, and this week he is helping Lula. His whole idea is to tax Brazilian products, so that Lula can generate a kind of confrontation, in which Lula defends our nation, supposedly, against Donald Trump’s abuses”said Santos.
The pre-candidate’s speech refers to what the Trump administration proposed for Brazilian exports on Tuesday (June 2). O (Office of the United States Trade Representative) proposed an additional 25% tariff on Brazilian products, based on Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The reason, according to the agency, is “unfair Brazilian commercial practices, such as favoritism towards the Pix system and commercial restrictions”.
The proposal, which affects sectors such as machinery and plastics, excludes items such as meat and airplanes, and opens a deadline of July 2026 for bilateral negotiations before definitive application.
According to Santos, attitude is part of a “geopolitical game that they [presidentes] do” and what it seems “perfect for Lula” and it happens “around the same time of year”. In 2025, a similar pricing situation occurred between the USA and Brazil, in which Flávio was considered by the opposition as an articulator.
