STVR moderator Gregor Mareš talks about the threat that Pope Leo XIV warns against: In a few years we can just wrap it up here!

Slovak radio and television presenter Gregor Mareš, who works for the public TV station STVR, is synonymous with knowledge and new technologies for viewers. Since it has thanks to sessions Duel, Duel of champions or VAT technology magazine close to science and innovation, he regularly supplies fans on social networks with topics that have deeper social implications.

This time he commented on the direction of humanity and uncontrolled growth of artificial intelligence. He is convinced that as a society we waste time on topics that are not that important to us. “Let’s finally focus on the important things that significantly affect our lives… or will affect them,” he said on Monday on the social network in the video that you can find at the beginning of the article.

In connection with this threat, he drew attention to the act of the head of the Catholic Church himself. “Pope Leo XIV published an encyclical a few days ago, which is called Magnifica humanitas and, among other things, it also addresses artificial intelligence. He does not write about the fact that artificial intelligence should be abolished or even banned,” he explained on the basis of the Holy Father’s statement.

According to him, this is a rational approach of a modern person who realizes that technological progress cannot be stopped, but must be given clear rules. “He writes about the fact that it needs to be regulated in a significant way… that it should not be left in the hands of only a few selected companies, a few selected people, and that we should all start talking about it,” he added, noting that the issue of controlling the tech giants is crucial.

At the same time, he highlighted the transnational and general dimension of this Vatican document. “It doesn’t matter if you are a believer, a non-believer or what your religion is. This one of the most powerful people on this planet stood up for absolutely all people and started talking, started writing it, even put it in an official document.” he emphasized.

He then moved on to a direct warning against ignoring reality. “Scientists all over the world are pointing this out. The way artificial intelligence is set up today and how it works… it’s a huge problem and we need to regulate it in a significant way. If we don’t start talking about it now, then in a few years we can just wrap it up here.” believes the long-time face of STVR.
