People are divided into two types of travelers. Those who have a detailed itinerary drawn up three months in advance with the exact time of arrival and departure to well-known tourist attractions, and those who see a ticket at a good price and in a few hours are already sitting on the plane with their passport in hand. Without a reserved hotel, without a plan and with one backpack, into which they quickly threw only the most necessary things.
This spontaneous phenomenon is totally taking social networks by storm, and it’s no wonder. Traveling blind brings something that no tour guide can provide you – pure, unadulterated freedom and a good dose of adrenaline.
Because when you have no expectations and no plans, nothing can go wrong. Every alley, randomly discovered local bistro without tourists or night conversations with strangers on the beach become a pure bonus. It is from these crazy escapes from reality, when you decide in a second, that the best life stories are created.
The well-known journalist Michal Kovačič also went on such a trip. The former host of the Na telo show packed his bags and went on a trip to American national parks with a friend. He left his wife Zuzana Kovačič Hanzelová, daughter Mila and dog Hektor at home. He documents his journey on social networks.
The first stop was the city of Seattle. There were cheap flights to this largest city on the northwest coast of the United States of America in the state of Washington. They visited an interesting concrete park. In addition to the concrete columns, which are of different heights, this environment is made special by colorful trees. It is thus a connection between a raw work of art and nature between high-rise buildings.
In Seattle they did not wake up for long and got on the next plane. They were heading to the state of Idaho, which borders Canada to the north. Idaho is a rugged country full of large nature reserves undisturbed by civilization. “In Idaho, we are greeted by circular fields. Fun fact: Idaho proudly presents itself as the “potato state”. They grow 6 million tons of potatoes here annually, i.e. about 600 kilos per inhabitant,” he published a view from the plane window that would surprise many people.
After landing, they rented a car and drove to the state of Wyoming, which is adjacent to Idaho. It was here that their official journey to the first national park began. “Grand Teton National Park is like the Tatras on steroids. The area is similarly small as TANAP, there are rhododendrons, marshes everywhere, but it is much higher here. The highest peak is 4199 meters,” he wrote about the breathtaking shots of beautiful nature.
The national park is teeming with wildlife. Tourists are especially warned about bears and the fact that people should not leave food unprotected. This could easily attract bears.
Kovačič contacted his fans the following day. They started it with a friend with a hearty breakfast in the form of a croissant filled with avocado, ham and eggs. “We had breakfast for the price of two lunches in Bratislava and we’re off to the next park,” revealed what prices are like in the gateway city of Jackson to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.
Kovačič and his friend also headed to the first mentioned park. The weather did not favor them. “We were planning to hike in the Grand Teton, but we only got two days of rain, and the temperature dropped to 5 degrees, so it’s not really good for rock climbing. So we’re going 100 kilometers further.” he complained.
After a long journey, they arrived at the famous Yellowstone National Park. Even in June, there is snow in these places. The reason is the location. Yellowstone National Park is located at an altitude of more than 2000 meters above sea level, so the weather here is cool during the day. He also captured the first large animal on video. “There are a lot of animals that usually walk on the roads, so you drive very slowly here,” said the presenter.
He showed the fans a unique phenomenon – geothermal springs. “And since Yellowstone is a supervolcano, it’s hissing or bubbling here every now and then.” he was describing how it looks there. They didn’t miss the Grand Canyon either. Not to be confused with the more famous Grand Canyon in Arizona. These two places are approximately 1000 kilometers apart as the crow flies.
Along the way, they encountered a unique event that can only happen in a few places in the world. “We have bison jam (bison jam, editor’s note),” says Kovačič in the video and points to the path along which the majestic animal is actually walking. “When you drive through Yellowstone and you turn on the navigation, you immediately notice a few jams. But it’s not a wrecker, it’s a bison jam.” clarified.
At the end, he also boasted of shots that give chills. The well-known Slovak presenter found himself just a few meters from the bear. “So the bear warnings aren’t just there,” alerted his followers. You can find all the shots in the VIDEO above the article.
