US Secretary of State said the country is “not friendly”; PT member says the US cannot disrespect him

The president (PT) criticized the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, this Wednesday (June 3, 2026). During a ministerial meeting at the Palácio do Planalto, the PT member stated that the head of North American diplomacy “He doesn’t like Latin America, much less Brazil.” The statement was made amid the worsening crisis between Brasília and Washington.

Lula also once again defended a foreign policy based on multilateralism and said that recent international conflicts stem from “unilateral decisions”. According to him, Brazil will continue to defend the strengthening of international institutions and democracy.

MINISTERIAL MEETING

This Wednesday’s meeting (June 3) was the first extended ministerial meeting held by Lula after the reform in the government’s political articulation and the recent escalation of trade tension with the United States. In addition to the tension with Washington, the president demanded that ministers accelerate deliveries and coordinate government actions.

Lula ordered that inaugurations and announcements go through the Civil House and complained about the lack of communication between ministries and the Planalto Palace.
