O senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) said this Wednesday (3) that the new tariffs proposed by the United States on Brazilian products harm Brazil.
In an interview with CNN Behind the Scenesthe congressman stated that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will have to negotiate with the White House, since the PT member stated that he has a “chemical” with the American leader, Donald Trump.
Marino called it “stunt” a.
“It obviously harms Brazil. Setting different prices reduces the competitiveness of the national industry and takes away our market. As Lula said he has chemistry with Trump, he must put this bravado into practice and conduct the negotiation in the best possible way, since this investigation was established a year ago and Brazilian bodies must be in contact with the US,” he said.
The 25% surcharge on Brazilian products was justified by the USA because the Brazilian government allegedly failed to take measures against the trade in goods resulting from forced labor.
Marinho continued to criticize the Planalto by saying that Brazil needs a “statesman” who has an dialogue with other countries without “ideological bias”.
“What Brazil lacks is a statesman, a leader who has the capacity to carry out this dialogue without the ideological bias that Lula demonstrates. Lula has been bravado and hostile towards the USA. Whoever governs Brazil needs to take into account the interests of Brazil, not the political group he represents”, he said.
