The former treasurer of Delúbio Soares published on social media on Tuesday (2) a video in which the president (PT) recognizes him among the public during an event in Catalão (GO) and walks towards him to hug him.
In the caption, Delúbio writes that the two have known each other since the 1970s and that he never stopped fulfilling missions given by the president and the party. “We met in the 70s, during the struggle, and we have been friends and companions ever since,” wrote he, who will run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies in Goiás this year.
The former PT treasurer used the “POV” resource — an acronym in English for “point of view” — with the phrase: “You are inaugurating a construction site and see a long-time friend from afar.”
Lula was in Catalão to inaugurate the new headquarters of the Catalão Campus of the Federal Institute of Goiano and the University Hospital of the Federal University of Catalão.
Mathematics teacher and trade unionist, Delúbio was one of the founders of the PT and leader of the CUT. He became a central figure in the scandal, the scheme for purchasing parliamentary support in Congress during Lula’s first term, in which he served as party treasurer and was appointed as an operator of transferring money to allied parliamentarians in exchange for support for the government.
For the active crime, he was sentenced by the (Supreme Federal Court) to 6 years and 8 months in prison. He was expelled from the PT in 2005, being reinstated in 2011. He also became the target of Operation Lava Jato, which convicted him of money laundering in a process later annulled by the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) due to the incompetence of the then judge.
Free from criminal prosecution since March 28, when he was acquitted of the last pending charge, of money laundering in Federal Court. He joins other characters from the Mensalão who intend to reach the Chamber in 2026, (PT).
