“The Schopen are the oldest people in Europe, didn’t you know that?” The waiter grins as he serves the “largest Šopska Salata in the world” at a restaurant in Caribrod/Dimitrovgrad in southeastern Serbia. There is now an impressive mountain of cucumbers, tomatoes and grated sheep’s cheese on the table.
