Prime Minister Magyar laid the cards on the table: Completely breaking away from Russian energy sources is impossible

  • According to Prime Minister Péter Magyar, Hungary cannot give up Russian energy.
  • The government plans to diversify supplies, but rejects a complete break with Russia.
  • According to him, the complete shutdown of Russian resources would damage the competitiveness of Hungarian companies.
  • The prime minister expects that a new energy cold war will not arise after the war in Ukraine.

According to the Prime Minister, Hungary Peter’s Magyar cannot completely give up energy sources from Russia. “We will try to diversify supplies, but it is impossible to completely break away from Russian energy sources,” he said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde on Thursday. TASR informs about it based on the report of the TASS agency.

At the same time, the Hungarian Prime Minister expressed his belief that after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, “no one will be interested in a new cold war, not even in the energy sphere.” Earlier in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Magyar said that Hungary remains dependent on Russian oil supplies and cannot afford to sacrifice the competitiveness of its companies.
