A teenager was killed and three other people were injured in a shooting Wednesday after a high school graduation ceremony in California, according to authorities.
Police were called around 7:15 p.m. local time to the parking lot of Fairfield High School, about 50 miles northeast of San Francisco, Officer Michelle Belyea of the Fairfield Police Department told the news affiliate. CNNKCRA.
The youngest of the three injured was just 11 years old, as were two adults, ages 20 and 25, Belyea said.
“There was one more victim, an 18-year-old girl, who died from injuries sustained during the attack,” he reported.
“This is an ongoing incident,” Belyea noted, adding that an investigation is ongoing and that there is no information to suggest “any ongoing threat to the community at this time.”
Authorities have not released details about the suspect.
A CNN contacted police and the Solano County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
According to KCRA, the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District reported that police responded to the attack that occurred during the graduation ceremony at Sem Yeto High School, which shares a campus with Fairfield.
A man who attended the ceremony told KCRA he heard gunshots while taking photos in the school parking lot.
Amanda Prieto, who lives near the school, said she was on the phone in her backyard when she heard the gunshots.
“I looked over the fence and saw people screaming and running across the parking lot. It was horrible,” she told KCRA. Prieto, whose 17-year-old son attends the school, said she felt “paralyzed with fear.”
Her husband, Luis Prieto, told KCRA that emergency services responded quickly, with police cruisers and ambulances at the scene.
Ilana Israel Samuels of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District told CNN: “Our thoughts are with those affected and as soon as we have more details we will share them with you.”
