The proposed recommendation presented by the PSD councilors at Portimão City Council, Carlos Gouveia Martins and Alexandra Evangelista, for the requalification of the Municipal Market was approved by a majority at a council meeting.
According to the PSD Portimão press release, the initiative received consensus from the various political forces, with only two CHEGA councilors voting against.
The proposal focuses on two interventions considered priorities: air conditioning and accessibility. In the first case, the objective is to find structural solutions that guarantee the thermal comfort of operators, employees and customers, while also safeguarding the conservation of fresh products.
Air conditioning and accessibility among priorities
In the field of accessibility, the document provides for a technical feasibility study for the creation of support parking, facilitating access to local commerce.
The vote was marked by the opposition of CHEGA councilors, Pedro Xavier and Ester Coelho, who voted against the document. According to , “both elected officials did not present any technical or political justification to justify the rejection of these improvements in the city’s main market.”
For the Social Democratic councilors, the approval of the proposal obliges the municipality to move forward with measures that have long been demanded by the population and local traders.
The document now goes to the Municipal Executive, which must prepare the respective administrative and technical procedures necessary to implement the planned measures.
