The city of Lagos could receive a new Lidl store, in a project that depends on an administrative process already underway at the City Council. According to the online newspaper, the future commercial area should be built in the industrial area of Marateca, next to Estrada Nacional 125, in an area close to the current fuel pumps, if the sale of municipal land that is being prepared for this purpose goes ahead.

The process began with the unanimous approval of the decommissioning of a plot of land measuring 3604 square meters, owned by the municipality. This decision is necessary to remove the space from the public domain and allow its subsequent sale, paving the way for the land to be integrated into a commercial real estate operation.

Land and assessment carried out by the municipality

According to the document analyzed by the city hall, the land was valued by an independent expert at just over 418 thousand euros. The sale is planned for a company that already owns contiguous land in that industrial area, which allows the parcels to be joined to create a larger area.

According to the same source, this integration will be decisive in enabling the construction of a future commercial area, which will later be associated with the Lidl brand through a lease contract.

Business structure under analysis

The buyer identified in the process is the company Barlavenda – Compra e Venda de Properties, which will be responsible for acquiring the municipal land. After the purchase, the space will be leased to Lidl & Companhia, which should be the entity to operate the supermarket.

The operation is not yet closed and depends on several administrative phases, including a period of public assessment where complaints or contributions can be presented by citizens or interested entities.

Next steps in the process

After this consultation phase, the process will go to the Municipal Assembly of Lagos, where it will be voted on by municipal deputies. Only with this final approval will it be possible to move forward with the completion of the sale of the land and, consequently, the possibility of installing the new supermarket.

According to Algarve Marafado, this is a usual procedure in operations of this type, especially when they involve municipal assets and projects with potential local economic impact.

Project still dependent on political decisions

The chosen location, next to the EN125 and in the industrial zone of Marateca, is considered strategic due to its accessibility and proximity to other commercial infrastructures. This factor is highlighted as one of the elements that justify the interest in the land on the part of promoters.

Despite this, the project is not yet closed and depends entirely on the completion of legal procedures and final approval by the competent municipal bodies.
