First Israeli officer killed in Lebanon after the new truce: Tel Aviv promised to raze Beirut

Not even 24 hours have passed since Israel and the Government of Lebanon signed a new—another assumption—, in talks that did not include the other actor involved in the conflict, the Lebanese Shiite militia of Hezbollah, which responds with attacks on the . An Israeli officer has fallen in combat, according to a statement from the Israeli Army itself, which does not give details about how the death occurred.

This is “Captain Eitan Shmuel Lemberg, 21 years old and native of Mishmar HaShivá, officer of the armored corps of the 75th Battalion of the 7th Brigade”, who according to what was reported in the information note “fell in southern Lebanon.” With this, there are already 28 Israeli soldiers killed in the framework of the invasion – and – of the south of the neighboring country. On the other side of the coin, the Israeli Army has a toll of 3,500 Lebanese fatalities.

However, this death has been recorded in a context of serious warnings and threats. In a context of the proximity of the Israeli elections, the most ultra wing of Netanyahu’s Government demanded that for every fallen Israeli soldier – not dead, but wounded – a Lebanese soldier, in Beirut. The Minister of Finance and leader of the Zionist Party, Belazel Smotrich, sued him.

Another truce with feet of clay

This truce was born yesterday with the same doubts as the previous one, marked by the constant violations of the Israeli Army and the pro-Iranian armed group. However, the IDF accuses an evident inability of military deployment if it is contrasted with destruction and domination, where the Hamas militia lacks the same level of arsenal as that available to Hezbollah, who with a drone causes terror among the Lebanese and among the contractors who operate heavy machinery.

Smotrich’s warning was not the only one in situations like those that took place tonight. In the ceasefire agreed yesterday it was established that Israel reserves the right to respond to what it considers attacks by Hezbollah. On the other hand, the Shiite militia does not recognize the agreement that, among other things, forces its disarmament and disappearance. Hezbollah distances itself from any scenario that does not entail a total ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory, which is why they will maintain the attacks regardless of what is agreed.
