Intervention by Israeli forces
The IDF said in a statement that its troops “identified several terrorists who threw Molotov cocktails at Israeli vehicles traveling on the main road.”
“(Israeli) soldiers opened fire on the terrorists and killed one of them,” the IDF said, adding that its troops were “currently searching for the other suspects.”
Rising violence
Violence has intensified in the West Bank since the Gaza war began in October 2023. Since then, Israeli soldiers and settlers have killed at least 1,078 Palestinians there, including many militants.
Based on official Israeli data, at least 46 Israelis were killed during the same period in Palestinian attacks or during military operations.
Israel has occupied the Palestinian West Bank since the Six-Day War in 1967. Three million Palestinians live in this territory and approximately 700,000 Israelis live in Jewish settlements.
