Firefighters from Martin and Dolné Kubín intervene on Friday afternoon at the Krpeľany train station. As reported by the Operations Center of the Fire and Rescue Service (HaZZ) in Žilina, the reason for the intervention is collision of two trains. A total of 11 professional firefighters from fire stations in Martin and Dolný Kubín with four pieces of equipment intervened on the spot.
The spokesman of the Slovak Railway Company (ZSSK) Ján Baček explained that in the station, the passenger train Os 3924 was hit from behind by the driving rail vehicle of the freight carrier. “There were approximately 100 passengers on the train. Two passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken for medical examination. The ZSSK train is not derailed,” informed. Passengers will be transported from the event location by the following train connection. Components of the integrated rescue system and the relevant railway authorities intervene on the spot. The causes and circumstances of the event are being investigated.
Martina Fröhlich Činovská, the representative of the spokesperson of the Operation Center of the emergency medical service, told TASR that two ambulances intervened at the scene of the accident. “A young person with a head and cervical spine injury and a 74-year-old man with back pain were transported to the hospital in Martin,” made concrete by Fröhlich Činovská.
The Žilina Regional Police reported on the social network that documentation of the scene of the event is currently underway. “Breath tests for the presence of alcohol in both train drivers, as well as orientation tests for the presence of narcotic and psychotropic substances, had a negative result,” the police said, adding that the circumstances and the exact cause of the incident are the subject of further investigation.
