Meliá Hotels International, a Spanish hotel group, announced the immediate cessation of management and commercialization services, as well as the granting of licenses for its hotel brands, in 15 hotels in Cuba.
The decision, which was initially communicated to the respective sponsors of the hotels to be May 26 and now officially confirmed, follows the company’s ongoing risk assessment process and reflects what it described as the need to ensure an orderly and sustainable operational framework.
According to , this measure was motivated by several external factors beyond the company’s control that affected the operational, legal and safety conditions necessary for the effective provision of services.
The measure was adopted “as part of a strong commitment with responsible business conduct” and aimed to ensure that operations remained aligned with company standards and responsibility.
The hotels you choose include the Gran Hotel Bristol Habana Vieja Member of The Meliá Collection, or INNSiDE Catedral Habana, or Meliá Buena Vista, or Meliá Cayo Santa María, or Meliá Jardines del Rey, or Meliá Las Dunas, or Meliá Península Varadero, Paradisus Los Cayos, Paradisus Princesa Mar, Paradisus Río de Oro, Paradisus Varadero, Sol Caribe Beach, Sol Cayo Santa María, Sol Río de Luna and Mares e Sol Varadero Beach.
However, the global impact must be limitedas the majority of affected hotels are currently out of service due to ongoing energy restrictions and decreased tourist demand in the Cuban market.
“Mélia Hotels International reiterates its commitment to maintaining the most high standards of operational integrity and will continue to closely monitor the situation to reassess its future position in Cuba,” the company stated.
Meliá added that it is implementing action plans to ensure an orderly and structured withdrawal process. At the same time, communication protocols are being activated to provide timely information to suppliers, business partners and customers.
The company also expressed its gratitude to interested parties for their continued understanding and trust, while indicating that it will continue to monitor the evolution of the situation in Cuba to evaluate possible future opportunities in the market.
