Supreme leader’s adviser says without deal with US, Iran will expand war

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei’s military advisor, Mohsen Rezaei, has threatened to expand the war to other unexplored fronts if he fails to reach an agreement with the United States. The comment took place in an interview this Friday, 5th, for CNN.

Rezaei conditioned the progress of peace negotiations on the release of Iranian assets frozen by the US through economic sanctions. “We consider this as a sign of good faith to achieve peace, and $24 billion is not a high value for America. It is a test they need to pass and the path will be reopened,” he said, adding that the money never belonged to the US. “It’s Iran’s money.”

The military advisor also accused the Americans of “not telling the truth” about the progress of the negotiations. According to Rezaei, the talks are still stuck in the first stage and were interrupted by American President Donald Trump. “Trump needs to put his interests aside, make decisions separate from Israel, release assets and then we will have a new path, a new horizon” for relations between Washington and Tehran, he pointed out.

However, with no progress in negotiations and with the US maritime blockade continuing, Rezaei threatened to expand the war fronts. “We are going to add another dimension to this conflict. We are going to expand into the Indian Ocean, into the Bab al-Mandab Strait and attack US bases other than the places we have already attacked, and US losses will be heavy,” he said.

The advisor also denied any possibility of a meeting between Trump and Khamenei. “That won’t happen,” he said.
