Insurance leaves notice on your calls for attention

Everything is not supposed to be interpreted as criticism. But “I will not hide any reality and I will say out loud what is important.”

The President of the Republic asked this Friday that all his “calls for attention” about the country’s problems should not be seen as “criticism of A, B or C”, arguing that the country needs to converge and not “shortened legislatures”.

At the end of a meeting with Portuguese businesspeople at the beginning of his visit to Luxembourg, Antonio José Seguro was questioned by the media about what he did on aging in Portugal and which today the Prime Minister considered to be “in line” with the Government’s concerns.

“The President of the Republic has spoken, is speaking and will speak many times about the reality of the country. I will not hide any reality and I will say out loud what I consider to be important and which are needs that the country must have. That Doesn’t mean I’m criticizing to A, B or C. It just means such a simple thing: It’s a problem, we need to solve it“, he stated.

Seguro asked the media to carry out this type of analysis “whenever the President of the Republic makes a call, draws attention, makes an appeal for very concrete situations”.

“And in fact we have a problem in the country, a serious problem, what is the problem with aging of our population. This creates pressure on the social security system, the healthcare system, among other consequences. And we have to look at this problem and fix it,” he said.

For this problem, he argued, “durable solutions are needed, solutions that go beyond the time of the legislature”.

“I said in my inauguration speech that we need to have a political maturity that makes us converge on lasting solutions that go beyond the deadlines of a legislature. The country cannot handle shortened legislatures and also cannot handle political changes permanently”, he insisted.

The President of the Republic gave as an example the case of Luxembourg, which he considers to work with “a convergent and not a divergent culture”.

“Priorities are defined, paths are defined, strategies are defined, resources are mobilized. We need, in Portugal, to face several problems, but in a convergent way and not in a divergent way”, he requested.

The President of the Republic considered that it is still “Parliament’s time” in matters of reviewing the labor law and the creation of the single Social Benefit (PSU), referring your assessment to “the appropriate moment”.

Specifically regarding labor legislation, Seguro said that “there is a process that is taking place in Parliament, or that will begin to take place in Parliament”, referring to the vote scheduled for the 18th on the Government’s diploma revising the Labor Code.

“O President will not interfere in this debate and in this discussion, and will bide its time. This is parliament’s time”, he stated, declining to answer whether he was concerned that the legislation could only be approved to the right or in a short period of time.

Also asked if he is clear about another Government diploma – which intends to create the PSU, replacing 13 other social supports” -, Seguro once again referred the issue to the parliamentary domain.

“The President of the Republic has the right time to evaluate the diplomas that arrive in Belém”, he said.
