Iran fired missiles at Bahrain and Kuwait. Tensions in the Persian Gulf are escalating after the American strikes

Iran fired seven missiles at Bahrain and Kuwait, but the countries repelled the attack. The incident, following the US strike on Iran, is raising tensions across the Persian Gulf.

The Gulf countries of Bahrain and Kuwait were the targets of new airstrikes by Iran on Saturday morning after the United States said it had struck the Islamic Republic. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

  • Bahrain and Kuwait became targets of new Iranian missile attacks.
  • Bahrain described the Iranian shelling as open aggression and gross violation of sovereignty.
  • Three explosions were heard in Manama and sirens sounded across the country.
  • In the previous attack near the Kuwait airport, one person died.
  • The American command CENTCOM claims that six missiles were shot down and the seventh missed.

The small island kingdom of Bahrain, home to the headquarters of the US 5th Fleet, condemned the attacks on its territory and neighboring Kuwait in a statement.

Missiles from Iran

Manama said the two Gulf countries had intercepted seven missiles fired from Iran, calling the attacks “open aggression” and a “gross violation of the sovereignty of both countries.”

An AFP journalist earlier reported that three explosions were heard in Manama, and the interior ministry said sirens sounded across the country.

In Kuwait, they recorded repeated explosions near the international airport, which already on Wednesday became the target of another attack, for which Kuwait blamed Iran. One person died in the incident.

Resumption of flights

A few hours after the shelling, the Kuwait Civil Aviation Authority announced the resumption of air traffic. He also said that 11 flights of Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted during the closure of the airspace due to the Iranian attacks.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they launched missile strikes against “enemy bases” after the US military said it had hit radar stations in Iran and shot down drones heading for the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM’s response

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said six missiles fired at Kuwait and Bahrain were shot down, while a seventh “failed to reach its intended target”.
