The event starts on the 18th and will run throughout the summer, with the clues being progressively released online.
A ski resort in northern Finland hopes to attract summer visitors with an unusual challenge: a treasure hunt that will last monthsoffering a gold bar worth 20 thousand euros to whoever finds it first.
On initiative, called Hunt for the Midnight Sunwill take place in Levi, one of Finland’s best-known winter destinations, located in the Lapland region. From June 18participants will receive a series of clues designed to guide them through the region’s landscapes, trails and seasonal attractions in search of the hidden prize.
Organizers say the treasure hunt will continue throughout the summerwith new clues being released periodically until August 22nd. Although the gold bar can be discovered at any time during the competition, each new clue is expected to narrow the search area and increase participants’ chances of finding the treasure.
The event is being organized by Visit Levi in partnership with Agnico Eagle Finland and Levi Ski Resort. According to the organizers, the initiative aims not only to create enthusiasm among visitors, but also promote Levi as a tourist destination for the entire year.
Levi is widely recognized for its winter sports, attracting thousands of visitors every year for skiing, snowboarding and other snow activities. However, tourism authorities believe the region’s summer season remains relatively unknown internationallydespite offering trails, mountain biking and nature experiences under the Arctic midnight sun.
To participate, visitors must follow the clues published in the dedicated event. The organizers emphasize that the search will not involve excavation and that participants must remain within designated areas, reflecting the event’s focus on responsible and sustainable tourism.
The treasure hunt also draws attention to one of the Arctic region’s most notable natural phenomena: the midnight sun. During the summer, areas north of the Arctic Circle experience long periods when the sun never sets completely below the horizon, creating almost continuous daylight.
