GT between USA and Brazil on tariffs runs until July 15th – 06/06/2026 – Panel

The Working Group with members of the Brazilian and North American governments created at the beginning of May to negotiate the tariffs imposed by 2025 would operate for just 30 days, but negotiations should last for another month.

The GT was created after the visit of the president (PT) to dialogue with the North American government. The deadline would end this Sunday (7).

But in the meantime, the United States has recommended, based on the so-called Section 301, that it analyze anticompetitive practices. The threat is of a new 25% surcharge on some Brazilian exports.

As negotiations have not progressed in the last month, the Brazilian government is working with a deadline of July 15th to try to reverse the first tariff package.

Brazil has been under a 10% global tariff since last year. Now, it is working to also reverse the 25% tariff. , of surcharging exports by 12.5% ​​because of forced labor, hasn’t even entered the bill yet.

On the Brazilian side, the GT is coordinated by the Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Márcio Elias Rosa. Members of the .

Brazil wants to show that North Americans are between the two countries. But it does not rule out including other points in the negotiation, such as rare earths and ethanol, as long as the subject is demanded by them.

Despite the extended deadline, members of the government do not rule out that there will be even more time for negotiations.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the US government is willing to maintain dialogue. Proof of this was the speech, Jamieson Greer, to the Brazilian chancellor, about the continuity of the conversations.
