Created in , the movement of popular agents ends this Sunday (7) its first national meeting, with an extensive agenda of demands to give more structure and recognition to the activity.
Around 800 agents from 22 states met for three days in Brasília, in an event organized by the Movimento Brasil Popular.
There were debate tables on Brazil’s urban peripheries, the organization’s challenges in achieving rights and the next steps towards consolidating the category.
During the Covid-19 health emergency, marked by the denialism of Jair Bolsonaro’s government, social movements organized initiatives such as popular kitchens, support networks and collective care actions, carried out by community agents. During the Lula administration, these actions were formalized and transformed into official policies.
Among the movement’s demands are expanding the budget and scale of popular agent programs, in addition to involving all ministries with social, economic and environmental activities in them.
It was also proposed to create a subsidy program for improvements in ensuring remuneration for cooks.
Another demand was to encourage the creation of Popular Solidarity Centers, aimed at social participation and access to rights in urban peripheries.
