The Ministry of Health decided to suspend vaccination against dengue developed by Butantan, as announced this Monday (8).
The justification for the interruption is three serious cases of hospitalizations after taking the medicine. Two people died and a third was discharged.
A 39-year-old woman developed symptoms of severe dengue six days after taking the vaccine and had to be admitted to the ICU. She was discharged.
Another 48-year-old woman also developed severe symptoms, with neurological impairment, 19 days after vaccination. The case resulted in death. The second case that resulted in death was a 58-year-old man, who presented symptoms five days after the application, presenting refractory shock.
It cannot yet be concluded that the events were caused by the vaccine, according to the ministry. The decision was announced in a press conference with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the director of the Butantan Institute.
Those who have already taken the vaccines remain immunized and should observe whether they present symptoms of the disease in the next 21 days after immunization.
