At least 12 people died and nine were injured on Tuesday night (9), when gunmen opened fire in an informal settlement in Cleveland, in the east of Johannesburg, South Africa, local police reported on Wednesday (10).
Authorities said in a statement that they began a search for more than 10 suspects after Jumpers reported.

According to police, the motive is still unknown and is part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made to date.
Police reported that the suspects arrived in a white Toyota Quantum, entered the settlement through two access points and in several locations before fleeing in the same vehicle.
South Africa has one of the highest homicide rates in the world, averaging around 60 per day.
