Alcolumbre meets with the government about 6 x 1, but does not guarantee a vote

The president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP), met on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) with the minister of the SRI (Secretariat of Institutional Relations), (PT-CE), to discuss the processing of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution that. The meeting ended without a guarantee of a date for voting.

Planalto wants to approve the text before the elections. Alcolumbre, however, holds the proposal, on May 27th. The PEC has been in the Senate since May 28th and is still awaiting a decision on whether to forward it to the Constitution and Justice Commission.

The proposal reduces the maximum weekly working hours from 44 hours to 40 hours and establishes two paid days off per week. The text is scaled 6

Guimarães defended that the senator (PT-CE), former Minister of Education, be chosen as rapporteur of the proposal in the Senate. The decision, however, depends on Alcolumbre.

The government leader in Congress, the senator (PT-AP), on Tuesday (June 9) that the PEC should be sent to the CCJ next week. According to him, the expectation is that the text will only be processed by a committee before going to the plenary.

The Chairperson of the CCJ, (PSD-BA), said at the Poder360 that , an alternative to the end of the 6 X 1 scale, will not be added to the proposal approved by the Chamber. The texts will be processed separately.

The alternative proposal is from the senator (PL-RN). The text allows working hours of up to 12 hours per day, limited to 48 hours per week, by individual or collective agreement, in addition to regulating time banks and work on Sundays and holidays. After pressure on social media and unions, senators (PL-RJ), (Podemos-PA) and (Republicanos-MG) tried to withdraw their signatures from the PEC, but the Senate requested them.

The President of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), asks Planalto to remove the urgency of the Bill at the end of the 6 X 1 scale. The government, however, should not accept it. The project was sent by the Executive on April 14 and was placed on the House’s agenda after 45 days without a vote.

Planalto’s strategy is to keep the Chamber’s work blocked to pressure Alcolumbre to move forward with the PEC in the Senate. Government members believe that deputies will also push for the vote, as the blocked agenda prevents the analysis of other projects.
