Australia widens the indictment in the case of the bloody shooting on Bondi Beach. The young man faces dozens of serious crimes related to the December attack.
Australian authorities have brought 19 more charges against 24-year-old Naveed Akram, who was involved in the Bondi Beach shooting in December. TASR informs about it based on Wednesday’s Reuters report.
Authorities have already charged Akram with 59 violations of the law, 15 of which related to murder and 40 of assault with intent to kill. According to local media, Akram’s lawyer confirmed 19 more charges against her client on Wednesday.
New allegations
Court records show that they relate to ten counts of shooting with intent to kill, six counts of firing a weapon in an attempt to evade arrest, and three counts of causing injury or grievous bodily harm with intent to kill. Akram has not yet commented on the allegations.
The shooting on the beach on December 14 during the celebration of the Hanukkah holiday had an anti-Semitic motive and left 15 dead and dozens injured. In response, Australia launched an inquiry into anti-Semitism and social cohesion in the country, the results of which should be known by December.
