The Czech summer is sometimes quite hot. It is not surprising that even hair that gets greasy by a hundred and six often takes it away.
Higher temperatures and the sun’s rays can irritate the scalp so much that it starts to sweat more. And the result is sweaty and dull hair. “Tell me! They look terrible – they are sticky and stuck to the head like a helmet,” complains reader Jarka, who is tired of washing her curls every day… Are you the same way? Then don’t despair, the same problem troubles almost every other Czech or Czech woman…
Washing your head a little differently
Plus, there’s one more snag… Most drugstore hair shampoos contain harsh cleansers—such as sulfates, perfumes, preservatives, or alcohols—that can irritate your scalp. In the end, the paradox is that the more you wash your head, the more oily it becomes… That’s why experts recommend using natural or gentle sulfate-free shampoos in the summer. Another option is to skip the shampoo and use a classic conditioner without silicones, which treats the hair but does not weigh it down.
Wet look
Hairdressers are also leaning towards the option of “keeping the grease on”. In short, give your hair a holiday mode and do not treat it in any particular way. The result is casual hairstyles that cover the fat or, on the contrary, can be used as a styling tool for a summer look. The first of them is the so-called “wet” look. You can create it simply by applying a styling gel with a wet effect or a hardener to the curls. Brush the hairstyle into the desired shape and fix it with hairspray.
Sleek ponytail
Use hair oiliness to your advantage. It smooths the hair without having to use a styling product, which can be useful for a smooth ponytail, for example. First, thoroughly comb your hair so that the oil reaches the entire length – that is, even into the dry ends. Then comb your hair back, make a ponytail, and fix it with a rubber band. “If you have very oily hair, avoid a high ponytail, which could reveal oily hair,” says American hairstylist Chris Appleton, who grooms well-known celebrities such as Kim Kardashian or Jennifer Lopez. According to him, it is better to bet on a low or medium ponytail or braid, which looks more decent.
Zigzag footpath
You can reliably mask oily hair by loosening the part a little.
“A straight path in the hair draws unnecessary attention to the oiliness,” says Appleton, adding that creating a zigzag (so-called zigzag) gives the hair a casual look and volume.
Headband, clip and cap
You can disguise greasy hair by casually curling it and pinning it with a clip. A scarf or headband will help a lot, which will act as a decoration and distract attention from greasy strands. If you have an “oily head” and don’t want to experiment, use a cap, scarf or hat. The head covering will also fulfill the purpose of sun protection. And that’s extra points!
