The Romans left clear traces in Austria, which can still be seen particularly impressively in Carnuntum in Lower Austria. The archaeological park between Vienna and Bratislava is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. The Roman city was probably built from the 1st century AD onwards where an important Celtic settlement was already located. Carnuntum was located directly on the Danube Limes in the province of Pannonia and flourished until around the year 400 thanks to the Roman Empire’s investments in the defensive line.
