The vice-president () met with Henna Virkkunen, vice-president of the European Commission, and the ambassador to Brazil, Marian Schuegraf, this Thursday (11).
During the meeting, Alckmin asked for Virkkunem’s commitment to mediating a solution that reverses the European Union’s decision to remove Brazil from the list of countries authorized to export certain products of animal origin to the bloc.
The EU made official, in a document published on the 5th, the exclusion of Brazil from the list of countries that comply with the rules against the excessive use of antimicrobials in livestock farming.
The measure, which comes into effect on September 3 and affects, in addition to beef and chicken, fish and honey, could generate a loss of almost US$2 billion per year to Brazilian exports.
Virkkunem, who is executive vice-president of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, committed to giving priority to the issue.
The vice-president will be at the Itamaraty Palace this Friday (12) to sign a digital partnership between the European Union and Brazil.
The agreement provides for bilateral cooperation in the areas of innovation and regulation of artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, data governance, digital signatures; and digital services.
