At the end of February this year, Ifab (the body that regulates football laws) approved new arbitration rules for the 2026 World Cup.
The initiative, according to the entity, aims to improve the pace of matches and curb waxing (when players try to waste playing time).
Among the new features are time limits for throw-ins and corner kicks, for substitutions and medical care on the field.
