One million electric cars in Austria by 2030 – is that possible?

More and more people are buying an electric car. This is despite the zigzag course at EU level surrounding the combustion engine phase-out planned for 2035. The ups and downs in various subsidies in many European countries, including Austria, do little to change the trend. This April, the proportion of pure electric vehicles among new registrations in Austria was over a quarter for the first time. From January to May, only a third of newly registered cars were petrol and diesel. The latter in particular, once the Austrians’ preferred drive, has radically lost its importance with 13,010 of a total of 130,273 new cars from January to May. E-cars seem to have outgrown their niche existence. Private individuals are also increasingly opting for a purely electric car. This year the proportion of new registrations could rise to 30 percent. Things are moving forward.
