The State Health Department of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) reported that it is monitoring the investigation of a suspected case of Ebola virus disease in a 64-year-old man who was recently in Ugandacountry in East Africa.
The service was provided at a health unit in Novo Hamburgo. During the investigation, a rapid test for malaria was carried out, with a positive result. “Although malaria is, to date, the main diagnosis identified, the case remains under investigation for Ebola virus disease, as determined by the Ministry of Health protocols.
The definitive disposal will depend on the result issued by the national reference laboratory, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz)”, said the secretariat, in a note dated Thursday (11).
If confirmed with Ebola, the patient will be transferred to a national reference hospital.
“The State Department of Health immediately communicated the case to the Ministry of Health and reinforces that all actions are being carried out in conjunction with municipal authorities and the Ministry of Health, strictly following surveillance, assistance and biosafety protocols”, adds the note.
At the same time, mapping and monitoring of contactants began, which will be monitored for 30 days for early identification of possible symptoms.
