Bolsonaro’s hiccups worsened, says report

A medical report forwarded to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) pointed to the worsening of former president Jair Bolsonaro’s health condition and should support a possible extension of the period of house arrest.

According to the medical team, the hiccups episodes have worsened in recent days, requiring the administration of high doses of medication, considered close to the safe therapeutic limit. The bulletin also records that Bolsonaro continues to complain of tiredness and fatigue during moderate efforts, in addition to fluctuations in body balance.

According to doctors, the former president must undergo a series of additional tests. Among them is a digestive endoscopy, which will seek to investigate the function of the lower esophageal sphincter and check for the possible presence of chronic esophagitis.

Bolsonaro is under house arrest after authorization was granted at the end of March for an initial period of 90 days, due to his health condition. The expectation is that the deadline will be extended in light of recent clinical complications.
