Australian fans took to the streets in the city of Melbourne, Australia, after the team beat Turkey 2-0, in a game valid for Group D. The match took place at Vancouver Stadium, in Canada, where Australians also celebrated.
According to national broadcaster Australian Broadcasting Corp, around 7,000 fans attended the event at the city’s Federation Square, and a further 9,100 people attended Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium.
A video of fans leaving Vancouver Stadium went viral on the social network X, in which the Australians appear euphoric with the result.
With the victory, Australia occupies second place in the group, behind only the USAwho thrashed the Paraguay by 4 to 1. The team led by coach Tony Popovic returns to the field next Friday (19), at 4 pm (Brasília time), against one of the hosts of the World Cup.
