Teenagers involved in gang rape in RJ will face the same crime against another girl

A new investigation conducted by the Civil Police, through the 12th DP (Copacabana), concluded that a another young woman in August 2023, in Botafogo, South Zone of Rio, was also raped by two of the five teenagers accused of the same crime in January 2026in Copacabana. The police asked the court to search and seizure of both, who at the time of the events were 14 and 17 years old, and they will answer for act analogous to qualified gang rapesince the victim was also minor. Another young man, Gabriel Oliveira Palmieri, aged 24, was charged with the crime.

The incident occurred on August 22, 2023, on Rua São Clemente, in Botafogo, at the residence of one of those involved in the crime, who was 17 years old at the time. According to the victim, she was lured to the location by the other teenager, aged 14, for a meeting. According to the testimony of the minor’s mother, given shortly after the Copacabana episode was publicized, after going to the room with the minor, the young woman was coerced into allowing the other two defendants to enter. According to the report, the victim was then subjected, for around an hour and a half, to forced sex with the three young men and was attacked with slaps to the face and punches to the ribs. After the fact, the video with the footage would still have been released, as a form of embarrassment.

“We understand that the dynamics are very similar to the incident that occurred this year in Copacabana, when the same teenager was responsible for attracting the victim, and the teenager’s report is very consistent, with proof of materiality. We have photographs of the injuries, taken at the time of the incident, and telephone messages subsequent to the case, which confirm the facts. As the two were involved in a similar recent crime, we requested a search and seizure. As for Gabriel, due to the lack of contemporaneity, we understand that different measures of imprisonment are appropriate. and he was indicted for the crime of gang rape”, explained Ângelo Lages, the delegate responsible for the investigations.

O The Public Ministry has already expressed its support for the search and seizure request for the young people. The process has now been distributed to the Children and Youth Court. Gabriel was indicted for qualified gang rape and the police requested precautionary measures other than prison, with a ban on approaching the victim, with the person under investigation having to maintain a minimum distance of 100 meters; prohibition of maintaining contact with the victim by any means; and periodic appearance in court. In this case, a prosecutor from the criminal court will still comment on the conclusion of the investigation and the police’s requests.

Upon being arrested, one of the accused, who is currently of legal age, was questioned by the police about the crime in 2023, but remained silent. The same happened with the underage teenager, who remained silent in the face of questions. Gabriel appeared accompanied by a lawyer and denied participation in the events, although he confirmed that he knew the other two young people and frequented the home of one of them.

Minor already fulfills socio-educational measure

In May, the Children and Youth Court of the Capital had already determined the hospitalization of minor adolescents involved in the Copacabana case. The decision took into account the seriousness of the crime ea violence committed against the victima 17 year old girl. According to the sentence, the teenager had planned an ambush against the victim, with whom he had an emotional relationship. He was subjected to hospitalization, without the possibility of going out for outside activities for an initial period of six months. In addition to the minor, 4 other adult men are also investigated for their participation in the crime.

The decision was signed by judge Vanessa Cavalieri, who highlighted the seriousness of the conduct and the need for a stricter measure, both for accountability and for the young man’s attempt to recover. Four other men remain in prison and are facing legal action for the same crime: qualified gang rape (committed in public) and false imprisonment.
