In unison and without nuances, the entire iranian press close to the regime of the Islamic Republic celebrates the pre-agreement with USA like a victoria. And this victory, as they assure and repeat, has not been diplomatic but military: Tehran considers that it has defeated Washington in the conflict torn from the past February 28 with the surprise assassination of the then Iranian supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
From the beginning, both the governments of the American president, Donald Trumplike the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahuthey made it clear that their objective was regime change. The fall of the Islamic Republicestablished in 1979. They did not succeed. And not only that, but Tehran has discovered a new and powerful weapon, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The current pre-agreement – which will be signed this Friday in a formal ceremony in Swiss— gives power and international legitimacy to the Iranian regime that internally finds itself in a very weak due to a economic crisis runaway, due to a inflation runaway and destruction caused during the conflict.
“The endurancewhich has its roots in divine faithhas achieved victory. Bravo to the nation of Imam Hossein. To Iran and the historic resistance. The sangre always triumphs over the sword,” the commander of the Quds Force, Esmaeil Shame. These forces – whose previous leader was assassinated by the US in 2020 – are in charge of the military intelligence of the Revolutionary Guard abroad.
Nothing clear
If the Iranian victory has been strategic, militarily it has been a overwhelming defeat. In the five weeks of active conflict, the Persian country lost most of its political and military leadership—including, of course, the supreme leader and his closest entourage—as well as much of its Navy.
But all that has mattered little: the regime has maintained its capacity for control within the country and attacks against its neighbors. “When our leader was overtaken by death, another followed him on his path. We have been guided by resistanceand no matter how much pressure has been exerted, the response capacity of Iran and the resistance groups have managed to frighten the enemy“, assures the Fars agency.
Iran even goes further. Although the pre-agreement document has not been published yet, several local media have published alleged text points in the last few days. They are all incredibly favorable for a Tehran that revels in its “victory.”
Among other issues, Persian government sources assure that the US will immediately hand over 12 billion dollars to Iran, will lift its sanctions against Iranian oil and will commit in writing to a reconstruction plan“paid for by Washington and its allies” for a minimum value of 300 billion dollars. All this, before entering the 60 day period to get a nuclear deal to certify the end of the Iranian enrichment program. This agreement is by no means guaranteed.
Anonymous American sources, however, have claimed that the points published by Iran are false. During the early hours of Monday, in an interview with FoxNewsthe American vice president, J.D. Vanceassured that Trump “can” publish the entire pre-agreement this week.
“The Army emphasizes that it is prepared to support the diplomatic channelon the path marked by national unity and strategy, but which is perfectly prepared and vigilant against any violation of the agreement. The fingers are on the trigger,” the Iranian judicial news agency said on Tuesday. Moreciting military sources.
