The president (PT) and the president of the United States (Republican Party) greeted each other during a social event, but without discussing tariffs. The greeting between the leaders took place on Tuesday night (June 16, 2026), at the G7 summit hotel, in Évian-les-Bains (France), according to the CNN Brazil.

Earlier, Trump passed by Lula before taking the official photo of the meeting. For the record, Lula was positioned next to the Chancellor of Germany, (CDU, center-right). Trump was next to (Renascimento, center), host of the event.

Tension between Brazil and the USA increased after the North American government proposed the application of tariffs on Brazilian products. The USTR (Office of the US Trade Representative) alleged that Brazil adopts unfair trade practices.
