Motta talks about his opponent’s ‘desperation’ in Paraíba after video recording with Lula

The President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), criticized this Tuesday Senator Veneziano Vital do Rego (MDB-PB), his political opponent. Motta classified the parliamentarian as “desperate” after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recorded a video in support of the emedebista.

Veneziano will run for re-election to the Senate and is competing for Lula’s support with Nabor Wanderley (Republicanos-PB), former mayor of Patos and Motta’s father.

Upon leaving an event in Brasília, the president of the Chamber denied that the video represents a bad feeling between him and Lula, but criticized Veneziano.

Motta talks about his opponent's 'desperation' in Paraíba after video recording with Lula

– There must be this despair of those watching the election. He (Veneziano) is seeing the scenario in Paraíba for our growth. The governor is growing, he is doing very well. My father, when he starts pulling, he (Veneziano) despairs; President Lula’s prestige is seen as the only bastion of survival – declared Motta.

– It is total despair, including burning the start of the electoral process – he added.

Veneziano must run for the Senate on the same ticket in which the former mayor of João Pessoa Cícero Lucena (MDB) will run for governor. In turn, Nabor Wanderley will run alongside the governor of Paraíba, Lucas Ribeiro (PP), who will run for re-election, and former governor João Azevedo (PSB), who will also run for the Senate.

In the video, released yesterday, Lula praises Veneziano.

— I have known Veneziano for a long time, and I can tell you that, on few occasions in my life as president of the Republic, I have had an honest and committed relationship with helping the government like I had with Veneziano — said Lula. — I would like to ask you, voters of Paraíba, that we need to return Veneziano to the Senate

Despite Lula’s video, the PT was part of the base of former governor João Azevedo, and remains alongside current governor Lucas Ribeiro after the change in command of the state.
