An office to investigate transfers of public property into private hands will be established in Hungary

The Tisza party plans to create a national office for the recovery and protection of assets. Péter Magyar promises a tough crackdown on corruption and abuse of public money.

Hungary’s ruling Tisza party will next week submit legislation to parliament on the establishment of a national asset recovery and protection office. Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced this on Facebook on Wednesday, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.

“The main task of the office will be to uncover the misuse of public property over the past twenty years, to investigate corruption schemes and transfers of public property to private hands, as well as to provide legal support for the return of illegally acquired public property,” Magyar wrote.

“Public finances will once again take on the character of public funds,” the prime minister concluded his contribution.
