The flight took off on Wednesday morning at 9:10 a.m. from MR Štefánika Airport, but shortly after takeoff, it turned around in the area of Šala and Galanta and returned to Bratislava, where it landed safely. The unexpected maneuver resulted in a collision with a bird.
“Wizz Air confirms that on June 17, flight W67021 from Bratislava to Barcelona collided with a bird during takeoff. In accordance with the strict safety regulations of the airline and the high level of training of the crew, the pilots decided to return to the departure airport to carry out a mandatory technical inspection of the aircraft,” the airline said in a statement.
The airline emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew is paramount in any case. After a bird strike, a thorough inspection of the aircraft is a mandatory and standard procedure, and the machine cannot return to service until it is completed. The flight to Barcelona finally took off from Bratislava again at 11:36 a.m. with a two-hour delay.
