Enel records more than 3 thousand cable thefts in five months of 2026

Enel, an energy distribution company operating in São Paulo, released data showing more than 3,761 occurrences of cable theft between January and May 2026. The cities of São Paulo, Santo André, Osasco, São Bernardo do Campo and Diadema were the cities with the most occurrences presented.

According to the data, there was an increase of around 9% compared to the same period last year, when 3,446 cases were recorded.

The city of São Paulo led the ranking, with 2,901 occurrences between January and May 2026equivalent to around 77% of cases registered throughout the distributor’s concession area. Next are: Santo André with 222 occurrences, Osasco with 214, São Bernardo do Campo with 115, Diadema with 62, Carapicuíba with 45, Taboão da Serra with 28, Cotia with 27, Mauá with 24 and São Caetano do Sul with 17 occurrences.

Among the neighborhoods in the capital with the highest number of incidents in the period are Vila Medeiros, Santo Amaro, Vila Brasil, Vila Mariana, Socorro, Ipiranga, Cidade Dutra, Jardim Consórcio, Parque Edu Chaves and Vila Prel.

According to the company, in addition to the growth in incidents, the number of customers affected by cable theft increased from 11,367 to 16,988compared to the same period last year, resulting in an increase of 49%.

To reverse the situation, Enel points out that it invests in a series of preventive actions and investments in technology, such as remote monitoring of equipment, installation of sensors and alarms in , strengthening property security and operating in areas with a higher incidence of incidents.
