and have reached an agreement to achieve a ceasefire which would come into force this Friday at 4:00 p.m., as revealed by a senior US official in statements collected by Reuters. “Hezbollah and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire,” he said.
“We understand that, after today’s exchange of fire, Israel and Hezbollah are now in a ceasefire,” added the same source on condition of anonymity, noting that the US and Qatar closed the agreement thanks to Iran’s help.
Tel Aviv has subsequently confirmed this, but has warned that it will leave its troops in the security zone. The Tel Aviv army has continued attacking the territory this day, leaving at least 18 dead in southern Lebanon and 33 people injured. All this despite the fourteen-point agreement reached by the United States and Iran, which demanded, among other conditions, the cessation of hostilities in the Mediterranean country.
The Shiite militia party Hezbollah was the reason why—as Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has always defended—the Israeli army attacked Lebanese territory, considering it a “threat” to its population. It will be time to wait to see if both parties finally cease hostilities, although according to published information, the ceasefire would have been agreed after the attacks by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The fourteen points of the agreement between Iran and the US
This ceasefire comes after Iran and the United States reached a peace agreement that includes, among other points, the opening of the (which was already open before the conflict initiated by the US and Israel together)the lifting of some restrictions and sanctions imposed against Tehran or respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries involved. In total, the plan includes fourteen points, which may be expanded after 60 days, at which time new talks will be held between the powers.
