Federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR) stated on Thursday (18) that she believes in the innocence of senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), investigated in Operation Compliance Zero, which investigates developments linked to the Banco Master case. She said, however, that the congressman must fully answer for his actions if any involvement is proven.
“I heard him talking about it [detalhes da investigação]. I believe in Jaques, that he has nothing to do with it. Now, if there is proof of involvement, personal benefit, he needs to respond. No one is exempt”, said the deputy in a radio interview BandNews FMin Curitiba.
The former minister of the Institutional Relations Secretariat also stated that she heard the PT leader’s explanations in the Senate about CredCesta, a card operation for public servants that, according to the senator, was sold before Banco Master became a partner in the business.
Gleisi defended the continuity of investigations and the installation of a Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) to investigate the case. In the interview, she also once again cited suspicions involving pre-candidate and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), stating that the audios leaked by the The Intercept are “very serious”, as they indicate sending money abroad and proximity between the parliamentarian and Daniel Vorcaro.
Jaques Wagner was the target, on Thursday, of search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to his name in Bahia and Brasília. In one of the locations, agents seized US$49,000 in cash, equivalent to around R$253,000 at the current exchange rate.
The investigations also investigate whether the senator received an apartment valued at more than R$2.4 million from Daniel Vorcaro. According to the Federal Police, Wagner also traveled frequently on the banker’s jets and received payments from Banco Master over the years through a company linked to his stepson’s wife, Bonnie Bonilha.
According to the investigation, the transactions intended for the senator’s family were recorded in messages exchanged between Wagner and Augusto Lima, Vorcaro’s former partner. The PF states that Bonnie Bonilha received around R$11 million from Master through a consultancy contract signed by BK Financeira, in transfers made by intermediaries also targets of the operation.
Given the elements gathered by the investigation, . Among them are the prohibition of contact with the other people being investigated — with the exception of his stepson, Eduardo Sofré, and Bonnie Bonilha —, the prohibition of contact with people linked to the negotiations and renovation of the apartment under investigation and the prohibition on carrying out any economic activity together with the other targets of the investigation.
